FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
General Information about Services at Compass
How do I get started with therapy?
The first step is to reach out to us! Complete the “Individual Service Contact Form” or “Group Contact Form” on our website. Our Intake Coordinator will respond, often within 48 hours, to begin the conversation about your therapeutic goals, desired modalities, scheduling preferences, and insurance details. You will complete paperwork and check your benefits with your insurance.
What ages do you provide services for?
We work with all ages: adults, adolescents, and children as young as 3 years old.
Where are you located?
We offer both Telehealth and In-Person Therapy in Massachusetts.
Our office is located at 78 South Street, Wrentham MA.
Online sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Please note that clients must be physically present in the state of Massachusetts for the duration of the session.
How long are therapy sessions?
Standard individual sessions typically last 53 Minutes. The first three sessions are considered Initial intake appointments, during which you and your provider will cover your history and goals at your pace and comfort level.
How often do I need therapy? Most clients find the most progress is made with weekly sessions, especially in the beginning. However, bi-weekly or monthly "maintenance" sessions may be possible after the initial intake period, depending on your specific needs and schedule.
Payment Options
How much do sessions cost? Do you take insurance?
We are in-network with BCBS, HPHC, UHC, Optum, Tufts, and MGB Commercial. If you aren’t sure if your insurance is accepted, please reach out to us!
Private-pay rates are $140.00 for 60 minute sessions, and $105.00 for 45 minute sessions.
We accept all major debit and credit cards, and most HSA cards.
Co-pays and fees are charged through Square.
If we are out-of-network for you, we can provide a Superbill (a detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
What is your cancellation policy?
Compass requires 48 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice will incur the full session fee. Insurance does not cover missed sessions.
What to Expect in Therapy
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. What you share in our sessions is legally protected and confidential. There are a few legal exceptions to this (such as immediate danger to yourself or others), which we will review in detail during our first meeting.
What should I expect from the first session?
The first session is one of up to three "intake" sessions, during which you and your provider will get to know each other. The provider will ask about your history, what brought you to therapy now, and what you hope to achieve. It’s also a great time for you to ask any questions about the therapeutic approach.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
There is no "one-size-fits-all" answer. Some clients seek short-term support for a specific transition (3–6 months), while others prefer long-term work for deeper personal growth. Your provider will regularly check in on your progress and goals.
What if I don’t feel connected to my therapist?
We ask that you see your provider for a few sessions before deciding if they’re a good fit for you. Therapy can make you feel “out of your element” at first, and bring up difficult emotions. If you’re still not feeling like it’s a great fit, you can reach out to our intake coordinator who can assist you in transferring to a different provider within our practice.
What will therapy be like?
Think of therapy as a dedicated space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment. While every therapist/ provider has a different style, you can generally expect the following:
A Collaborative Partnership: You are the expert on your own life. Your provider’s role is to provide the tools, perspective, and professional guidance to help you navigate it. You and your provider will work together to set goals and identify the areas you’d like to change.
A Safe, Non-Judgmental Space: This is a place where you can be completely honest. Whether you are dealing with deep-seated trauma or everyday stress, sessions are a "no-shame zone" designed to support your growth.
Active Listening and Feedback: Sometimes your provider will listen and provide a mirror to your thoughts; other times, they may gently challenge a perspective or offer specific strategies (like mindfulness exercises or communication tools) to help you manage difficult moments.
The "Work" Between Sessions: Much of the progress in therapy happens in the days between sessions. You might be encouraged to reflect on a specific topic, practice a new coping skill, or simply observe your reactions to certain triggers.
An Evolving Process: Some days you may leave a session feeling lighter and more empowered; other days might feel more emotionally heavy as you and your therapist process difficult topics. Both are a natural and healthy part of the healing journey.
No matter where you are in your journey, therapy is for everyone! Please reach out to us if you have any other questions about services at Compass.
